SEELEY LAKE - The Seeley-Swan Blackhawks and Lady Blackhawks hosted Lincoln Jan. 3 and Charlo Jan. 4. Both the Boys and Ladies easily defeated Lincoln but couldn't overcome the stiff competition from Charlo.
The Lady Blackhawks wasted no time burying Lincoln, outscoring them 2 to 1 in the first quarter and 4 to 1 in the second quarter. They didn't let up much in the second half running the score up to 69-26 by the final buzzer.
Terra Bertsch and Ashley Miller led the assault with 11 points each. The Lady Blackhawks landed 6 three-pointers, including a pair from Bertsch. The team was 5 for 6 from the free throw line with Miller hitting a perfect 3 of 3.
Also scoring: Lily Mercer 10, Bethany Hoag 9, Autumn Morse 9, Sariah Maughan 5, Jory Towe 4, Aspen Conley 3, Taylor Dillree 3, Lauryn Barnes 2 and Kara Good 2.
The Lady Blackhawks faced a more formidable opponent the following night when they hosted Charlo. Charlo held the Lady Blackhawks to just 5 points in the first frame and shut down the Ladies' three-point game after Bertsch landed the first and only three-pointer for the Lady Blackhawks. The Ladies found some success in the second quarter but struggled in the second half. The final score was 30-54.
Morse led the Lady Blackhawks with 8 points followed by Bertsch with 6.
The Lady Blackhawks were off from the free-throw line as well hitting only 3 of 7 attempted.
Also scoring: Barnes 4, Conley 4, Mercer 2, Good 2, Maughan 2 and Towe 2.
The Blackhawks decimated Lincoln in the first half running up a 39-point lead and coasted to a final score of 71-30.
Cordell Turner led the Boys with 23 points while Owen Mercado hit 3 three-pointers and was 8 for 9 from the free throw line on his way to 21 points. The Blackhawks made 14 of 20 from the free throw line.
Also scoring: Chance Johnson 10, Hunter Shelmerdine 8, Dakota Wood 5 and Walker McDonald 4.
The Boys had a great start against Charlo putting them down 6 in the first quarter and extending their lead to 11 by the half. Charlo came back strong after the half and all but erased the Blackhawks' lead.
The teams battled in the final quarter but in the end the Blackhawks came up one basket short with a final score of 44-45.
Johnson and Turner scored into the double digits with 16 and 14 respectively. The team hit 11 of 16 from the free-throw line with Mercado hitting a perfect 2 for 2 while Turner hit 7 of 10.
Also scoring: Mercado 9, Shelmerdine 3 and Wood 2.

The Blackhawks and Lady Blackhawks head to Darby Jan. 11 with JV Girls starting at 2:30 p.m. and then host Victor Jan. 12 with JV Boys starting at 1:30 p.m.
