Blackhawks split the week

SEELEY LAKE - The Seeley-Swan Blackhawks and Lady Blackhawks defeated Valley Christian at home Dec. 14 and fell in Arlee the next night.

The Boys came out strong against Valley Christian racking up 13 points and allowing Valley just 2 in the first quarter. After a tight second quarter, the Blackhawks got back to work in the second half finishing Valley off 57-29 by the final buzzer.

Owen Mercado led the Blackhawks with 16 points off 8 baskets while Cordell Turner scored 14 points off 6 baskets including 2, three pointers.

Also scoring: Dakota Wood 8, Hunter Shelmerdine 8, Chance Johnson 7, Lane Mackie-Wendel 2 and Walker McDonald 2.

The Blackhawks suffered their first loss of the season against the Arlee Warriors Dec. 15. The Boys put up a good fight but fell 39-61 against a team that has outscored their last two opponents 3 to 1.

Shelmerdine scored 16 points to lead the Blackhawks followed by Johnson with 12 points. Shelmerdine hit 4 of 6 from the free throw line while Johnson hit 2 for 2.

Also scoring: Mercado 8, Wood 2 and Turner 1.

The Lady Blackhawks dominated the game against the Valley Christian Eagles. They shut the Eagles out the first quarter. Back to back three-pointers from Autumn Morse in the final minute of the second quarter helped put the Lady Blackhawks ahead by 26-4 at the half.

While the Eagles managed a couple more baskets in the second half the Lady Blackhawks continued to run up the points to a final score of 64-19.

Morse led the Lady Blackhawks with 15 points and Terra Bertsch was right behind with 12 points. Both girls hit 100 percent from the free throw line with Morse hitting 4 and Bertsch 2.

Also scoring: Chloe Robbins 8, Ashley Miller 5, Kara Good 4, Sariah Maughan 4, Jory Towe 4. Aspen Conley 4, Kinley Moore 4, Lauryn Barnes 2 and Lily Mercer 2.

The Lady Blackhawks struggled in the first quarter in Arlee scoring just 9 to the Scarlett's 25. The rest of the game was a little tighter and the Lady Blackhawks even matched Arlee in the final frame but fell 53-78 in the end.

Bertsch and Mercer scored into the double digits with 11 and 10 points respectively. Bertsch and Miller each hit 3 of 4 from the free-throw line while Miller, Morse and Maughan each had 1 three-pointer.

Also scoring: Good 8, Miller 8, Morse 7, Maughan 5, Towe 2 and Barnes 2.

This week

The Blackhawks and Lady Blackhawks take on the Clark Fork Coop at home Dec. 20 with JV Boys starting at 2:30 p.m.
