In addition to helping write and pass a responsible, balanced budget, fighting against the $300 million in tax increases that will be proposed next session and passing property tax relief for Montana Seniors, there are a number of other topics we need to tackle in the next Legislative Session.
We need to reach an agreement that would allow us as a state to get resources on fires as soon as they start without having to wait for someone in Washington or Helena to sign all the correct paperwork. While I am pleased that Democrats, this campaign season, seem to be more on board with fuel reduction, they still don’t seem ready to publicly support the timber industry in Montana. One of the most important parts of our fire management plan moving into the future must be the proper tending of our forests, that means greater timber production, more projects going out to bid and that means fighting against the environmental interests that are trying to kill the timber industry in Montana.
We need to find better ways to serve our veterans. Last session I brought forward a bill to deliver better healthcare for veterans in rural communities. Next session we need to find better ways of housing services for our veterans closer to where they live, decentralize the services in Helena and stop making vets drive hours and hours for routine checkups and services.
I am proud to be endorsed by the NRA and the Montana Shooting Sports Association. We take an oath as legislators to uphold the constitution and protect your rights. Those rights are currently being attacked by the Democratic County Commission and City Council here in Missoula. If re-elected to continue serving you in the Legislature, I intend to write a bill to prevent the county and the city from violating state law and our 2nd amendment rights by pushing through gun control ordinances to please their donors.
It has been an honor representing you over the past two years and I can’t even put into words how grateful I am for all the support that the people of this District have given me.
If re-elected to continue serving you, I promise that I will continue to serve how I campaigned. I will always work to pass a good bill, simply because it’s a good bill, regardless of who wrote it. I will always fight against a bad bill, simply because it’s a bad bill, regardless of who wrote it. I will continue to fight the special interests in Helena. I will protect your Constitutional Rights and I will fight to keep the government from constantly raising our taxes.
Please make sure to get out and vote on Nov. 6. I would be honored to have your support once again and I am asking you for your vote, so we can continue to get things done!
House District 92 Representative Mike Hopkins

Thank you for the thoughtful response. We might disagree when it comes to some parts of state gun policy but I think there is probably a couple of areas where we can work together when it comes to safety in schools and the like. If you ever want to discuss it further or if you ever want to chat in general, my cell phone number is 406-531-1775. Thanks again, Representative Mike Hopkins, House District 92

I do NOT support the NRA's agenda of a gun in every hand. I want sensible, effective control of who gets a gun and what kind they get. I want the CDC to be given the green light to investigate gun violence. I want automatic assault weapons off the market. I want a waiting period before receiving a purchased gun. I want mandatory gun safety training for each gun purchase. I want our representatives to take a serious approach to gun ownership that protects the average citizen at a concert, or restaurant or school. One persons right to own a gun is not more important than our safety. I know that you disagree with all this. However, please note it in your constituent comments notebook and keep it in mind when considering legislation.
