SWAN VALLEY - The festive laughter of all ages having a spooky fun time echoed throughout the Swan Valley Elementary School's gym on the evening of Oct 26. The annual Harvest Festival, hosted by the joined efforts of the PTA and the junior high class, brought students and their families dressed up as anything from a Disney Princess to Spooky Skeletons for a spaghetti dinner followed by the carnival.
It has become a bit of an unofficial tradition for the junior high class to hold a fundraiser spaghetti dinner in order to raise funds for future field trips, such as the statewide Montana trip that occurs once every three years. The event grasps the attention of many members of the Condon community, and is an opportunity to help out the local students raise money for educational purposes.
The junior high students served spaghetti, salad with an assortment of dressings, garlic bread and a variety of desserts baked by the students themselves. The spaghetti dish received the most compliments.
"Families and students donate their time and efforts and we really appreciate it," said junior high teacher Colleen Harrington.
"The meal was fabulous and the students make a great team together," commented third - fifth grade teacher, Jamie Matthew.
Following the dinner, the PTA had many fun games and activities for children of all ages to enjoy, including a cakewalk, beanbag toss and nut stacker. Participants won prizes at each activity. The money raised from the games allows the PTA to contribute to future field trips and activities for the students.
"This festival is a bit of a tradition," said PTA President Jenny Kauffman. "The evening is fun and it's nice for the kids to make food."
