The Seeley-Swan Lady Blackhawks hosted the Hot Springs Savage Heat for their Homecoming match Sept. 29.
The Heat was turned up right from the start and the Lady Blackhawks fell hard in game one, 16-25. The Ladies didn't let it go to their heads and answered back with a 25-23 victory in the second game.
Game three was another close one with the Savage Heat coming out on top 21-25. Again the Lady Blackhawks answered back with a 25-18 in game four to send the match to a fifth game.
As if the fans hadn't gotten their moneys worth, game five was another nail biter. The teams traded hits back and fourth with never more than a two-point spread. The Lady Blackhawks defeated the Savage Heat 15-13 and took the match.
Lady Blackhawks Head Coach Tammy Lewis said it was a team effort. She credited key kills coming from Bethany Hoag, Sariah Maughan and Trista Wendel, great serving from Emma Stevenson, Taylor Dillree and Jayla Kauffman and solid match-long play from Ashley Miller, Autumn Morse and Klaire Kovatch.
Kovatch led the Ladies in kills with 18 and had all of the teams' 3 stuff blocks. In blocking, Maughan joined Kovatch with 6 blocks each. Morse had 24 assists while Miller led in digs with 21 and Stevenson led with 3 aces.
Earlier in the week the Lady Blackhawks defeated Lincoln on the road in three games, 25-13, 25-17 and 25-14. The victory brought their conference record to 4-0.
The Lady Blackhawks have a busy week. After taking on Granite at home Oct. 2 they travel to Darby Oct. 4 to take on the Tigers at 5:30 p.m. and then host Clark Fork Oct. 6 with the varsity game at 5:30 p.m.
