SEELEY LAKE – The Seeley Lake Ranger District is wrapping up their summer activities and turning attention to fall projects. Many fall projects are in the works and are dynamic. For the most current information contact the Ranger District at 406-677-2233.
Road Work
Morrell Bridge, the road to Morrell Falls trailhead, will be fixed this fall and the old bridge removed.
The Henry Mountain road #5407 within the Marshall Creek Wildlife Management Area is now open. The District is currently working on a long-term solution with Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks that would be implemented next year.
Timber Salvage
The Liberty and Rice Ridge Fire Salvage project decisions have been signed.
The 250-acre Liberty fire salvage sale was advertised and the bid deadline was Sept. 20.
The 3,494-acre Rice Ridge fire salvage project was divided into four timber sales: Fried Morrell, Rice Crispy, Dark Horse, and Left Mule. The Fried Morrell and Rice Crispy timber sales were advertised, with expected bid dates of Sept. 20 and Sept. 25, respectively. The Dark Horse and Left Mule timber sales are currently being prepared with advertisement expected in early October.
Prescribed Burns
Pending weather, fuel conditions, and smoke approvals, the fuels crew has been implementing post-logging prescribed fire burning at Colt-Summit, Auggie and Horseshoe Hills project areas.
Check the Seeley Swan Pathfinder and Lolo National Forest Facebook pages for announcements when and where burns will be conducted.
Firewood Opportunity
Firewood cutting will be allowed until Oct. 15 along Boy Scout and Westside Bypass roads. A US Forest Service firewood permit is required. The District asks cutters to watch for signs and please respect private land!
Campground Status
The vegetation treatment to remove the infected Douglas-fir trees has changed the appearance of the campground but has opened the canopy for more sunlight for understory trees.
The Big Larch boat launch will remain open until reconstruction begins.
River Point Campground will close Sept. 30. Seeley Lake Campground and boat launch will remain open until ice-on.
