Fortunate to have Rachel Feigley

When I wrote my letter last week stating my support of the US Forest Service, the Seeley Lake Ranger District and the District Ranger, I intended it to be on the more general level in an attempt to offer a perspective of what government is, or rather isn’t, by stating it is not a business and should never be operated as a business, and the difficulties our land management agencies are facing now with severe budget cuts.

With this much shorter letter I bring it to the local level. We are incredibly fortunate to have Rachel Feigley as the District Ranger.

Again borrowing from my own experience working for the US Forest Service from 1975-1985, District Rangers that I knew then were active community members and set an example for FS employees. Rachel is what I call “old school.” She, too, is active in and accessible to our community. With the complex issues the Forest Service faces now, there could be a tendency for any FS employee to isolate themselves from the community. Her involvement and accessibility here is that much more commendable due to the difficulties faced by all land management agencies. We need Rachel to navigate the FS through the difficulties here on our local level.

I offer wholehearted support to Rachel and her dedicated staff.
