The Seeley-Swan Lady Blackhawks made the trek around the mountains to take on Charlo in their opening match of the season Aug. 24. The next day they rolled down to Drummond for their first round robin tournament featuring 16 teams.
The Lady Blackhawks fought hard against Charlo but came up short. They fell in three games, 23-25, 20-25 and 13-25.
The defense was led by Klaire Kovatch with 6 stuff blocks and 6 blocks while Autumn Morse had 14 digs. The pair led the offense as well with 4 kills each and Morse was credited with 6 assists. Taylor Dillree scored half the team’s 6 aces.
The Lady Blackhawks faired better at the tournament defeating Granite, Twin Bridges and Drummond but fell to Hot Springs in seeding play.
They then faced Arlee in a best of three games to 15 points match. They came out strong and took the first game 15-10 and fought a hard second game that ended with Arlee on top 19-21. The final game went to Arlee 8-15 and ended the Lady Blackhawks day.
The tournament was won by Gardiner and second went to Charlo.
Kovatch led the Ladies at the tournament with 23 kills, 3 stuff blocks and 5 blocks. Morse had 31 of the team’s 45 assists. Emma Stevenson and Morse each had 4 aces while Ashley Miller had 23 digs.
Lady Blackhawks Head Coach Tammy Lewis was pleased with how the team played and is looking forward to the upcoming season. The team has 16 athletes this year though they only had 10 with the required practices to play the opening week.
This week the Lady Blackhawks are on the road again and take on Arlee Aug. 30 with JV matches starting at 4:30 p.m.
