OVANDO - Ovando School welcomed nine students this year for the start of school Aug. 27. While many things will remain the same as last year, there are a few changes that will shake things up.
Supervising Teacher Leigh Ann Valiton will be teaching the older students in the big room and teacher Andrea Tougas will teach the younger students in the little room. The schedule will be the same as last year going five days per week the first semester and four days per week the second semester.
“It worked really well. We get a good start on everything and then we still get two weeks off for Christmas and we get out before Memorial Day, which is a goal of the parents here,” said Valiton.
Ovando will be working with Sunset School again this year as much as they can. Valiton said they will be joining up for their annual Christmas program in December.
Valiton is excited to add a cooking class this year. Taught by an Ovando resident twice a month for all grades, the students will cook in the morning and have a hot lunch.
“It will be a nice treat for the kids,” said Valiton.
The Montana History Trip was moved from the fall to the spring this year. Valiton said there are so many things going on this fall that they don’t want to have to cram it in. Instead they will look forward to going this spring.
Valiton said, “We are looking forward to another great year.”
