Correction - Foundation purchase amount of Deer Country Quilts building higher than $50,000

SEELEY LAKE - The Pathfinder erroneously reported that the Seeley Lake Community Foundation will purchase the building that previously housed Deer Country Quilts from Pam and Loren Rose for $50,000. According to SLCF Vice President Kevin Wetherell, the Foundation will be purchasing the building with a combination of $215,000 and a charitable contribution of equity from the Roses equivalent to $200,000.

The $50,000 dollar fundraising goal set last Sunday night’s banquet will be applied as additional equity in order to secure the necessary financing to complete the $215,000 bargain sale purchase price.

Seeley Lake Library News

SEELEY LAKE - The Summer Reading Program concluded Wednesday, Aug. 15. Twenty participants completed an entire reading sheet to have their names entered into the drawing for grand prizes. Winners were: Lilium Young won the fleece blanket; Clara Kyrouac won the fishing pole; Luke Patterson won the backpack and Eli Nicholas won the tent.

The Seeley Lake Library Book Club will meet Wednesday, Sept. 26 at 11 a.m. to discuss Mildred Walker’s “Winter Wheat.” This novel, set in the wheat country of central Montana in the early 1940s, tells the story of 18-year-old Ellen Webb. It is only after Ellen leaves home and returns that she begins to see everything, including her parents, with new and critical eyes.

The book has been described as an unsparing and poignant examination of love and life. All are invited to join in the discussion. Books are available at the checkout desk.

Beginning Tuesday, Aug. 28 the library’s hours will change. The library will be open to the public Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. and Wednesdays from 10:30 a.m. – 6 p.m. The Seeley Lake Library is a branch of Missoula Public Library located at Seeley-Swan High School.

Swan Valley Community Library Highlights

Swan Valley - Summer is winding down but there is still cooler weather to look forward to and a chance to hike in the valley and learn about the flora and fauna of the area. There are many books available in the library that describe hikes in the Swan and nearby areas. There is also a whole section of books covering local history along with Montana biographies, historical and geological books.

The monthly book chat will meet Friday, Sept. 7 at 1 p.m. to talk about “Proof of Heaven” by Eben Alexander, M.D. Come in to the Swan Valley Library for your copy.

A work of nonfiction, “Proof of Heaven” was written by a neurosurgeon whose rare illness attacked his brain and completely shut it down. Alexander was in a coma for seven days and then came back which was touted as a medical miracle. He is able to tell of his spiritual journey which in many ways matches the many before him who reported their “near death experiences.” Before his journey he denied any belief in heaven, God or the soul partly because of his knowledge of neuroscience. After his experience and writing his book he relates that all is real and that death is not the end but a transition.

Swan Valley Library is open Mondays and Fridays from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. and Wednesdays from 10 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. The library is located next to the Swan Valley Community Hall in Condon.
