SEELEY LAKE – The Seeley Lake Elementary School Board hired Robin Gaither as the new kindergarten teacher and Rachael Bemis as the new second grade teacher to teach the split class for the 2018-2019 school year at a special meeting Aug. 2. Last year’s kindergarten teacher Sheila Devins moved into the open first grade position.
“This was probably one of the strongest candidate pools that we have had in the [nearly 11] years I’ve been doing it,” said SLE Superintendent Chris Stout. “I think the interview committee can attest to the fact that we are hiring some qualified people that seem to have some good enthusiasm for being in Seeley and in those positions. I’m super excited.”
The board unanimously approved the two new hires without discussion.
When asked by the Pathfinder why Devins was transferring to the open first grade position Stout said she requested the transfer during the five-days the position was advertised to the SLE staff.
“If there is no reason to deny the transfer request then we allow that to happen,” said Stout who honored her request.
During public comment, the board said the proposed ice skating rink is staked out in the field southeast of the softball fields. The stakes are marked with yellow flagging.
The board is still accepting comments on the proposed rink and expects to discuss it further at their regular August meeting, Aug. 21 at 5:30 p.m. in the SLE technology lab.
