SEELEY LAKE – The Awesome 80's Prom did not disappoint as the Seeley-Swan High School Drama Class took attendees back to their senior prom in 1989, May 10. The audience was a part of the play as they got up and danced, interacted with the characters and cast their vote for Prom King and Queen.
The drama of high school life unfolded offering a lot of laughs as the characters milled about the crowd picking dance partners and slipping in one-liners. While main scenes were scripted, the actors and actresses had the opportunity to really develop their character as they improvised throughout.
Principal Mr. Richard "Dick" Snelgrove (Jasen Sokoloski), also referred to as "the dictator," tried to keep a tight ship throughout the night along with Mrs. Patty Lascalzo (Lulu Bohlman). Snelgrove did cut loose a few times much to the ridicule of his students.
Once the votes were tallied, the winners for king and queen were announced. Prom King was no surprise as captain of the football team Blake Williams (Logan Robinson) was crowned.
Everyone was shocked when Dickie Harrington (Ryan Davis) was named prom queen. Kerrie Kowalski (Maddie Davis) demanded that she should have been queen because Williams was king.
In the scuffle for queen, Kowalski's escort Louis Fensterspock (Nicole Williams) stepped up to the mic. Even though Fensterspock was the laughing stock of the class and the typical geek, he helped bring everyone together by focusing on a memory when they all attended his ninth birthday party.
"I may not have a Camaro [like Blake Williams] but I know you don't need a crown on your head to be queen," said Fensterspock who said he received his first rubics cube from Kowalski at that birthday party and it was "the best present ever."
Harrington agreed and turned his crown over to Kowalski. Kowalski's joy turned to shock as Fensterspock got down on one knee and started professing his love. She quickly diverted him, keeping him from asking the question as they all exited the stage.
