Amazon Best Selling Author Mark Sullivan to Read at OBC

SEELEY LAKE - Mark Sullivan will be reading from and discussing his bestselling novel, "Beneath a Scarlet Sky" at the Open Book Club this Saturday, May 12, 7 p.m. at the Grizzly Claw Trading Company.

Mark is an acclaimed author of 18 novels. He has a BA in English and worked as a volunteer in Niger, West Africa. He is an avid skier and adventurer. He and his wife live in Bozeman, Montana.

Although a work of fiction, this novel is based on a true story with a real hero. At the heart of the story is a normal 17-year-old Italian boy named Pino Lella obsessed with music, girls and food. When the bombs started dropping in Milan during World War II and his family home is destroyed, his parents send him to a camp in the mountains. There he guides Jewish refugees across the rugged and often harrowing terrain of the Alps to the safety of Switzerland.

After several months and nearing his 18th birthday, his father insists he return to Milan and join the German army rather than risk being conscripted and sent to the front. Through unusual circumstances, he becomes the personal driver for a high-ranking German general. This position allows him to witness significant events during the occupation and spy for the partisans.

So many countries were affected by Hitler's gruesome war tactics and many true heroes have gone unnoticed or forgotten. If not for a chance meeting, Pino's story would have died with him.

Mark Sullivan has written a compelling story that will hold the readers interest from beginning to end. We are very fortunate to have this noted author present at Open Book Club. Do take advantage of the opportunity to listen to and interact with Mark Sullivan.
