MISSOULA - I was pleased to learn that the Missoula County Democrats (MCD) endorsed T.J. McDermott in the primary race for Missoula County Sheriff. McDermott is the only candidate in the race to receive the Democratic endorsement. In addition to the MCD’s endorsement, TJ is endorsed by former Sheriff Doug Chase, Mayor Engen and Missoula County Commissioner Cola Rowley. There are many reasons why McDermott has won such a breadth of endorsements.
McDermott showed true leadership in promoting and implementing the Missoula City-County Jail Diversion Plan for low-level, non-violent offenders. Filling Missoula’s jails with folks who can be better served through community corrections makes economic and common sense.
In order to maintain the highest standards in responding aggressively to sexual assaults in our community, the Sheriff’s Office now collaborates with Just Response, First Step Resource Center and the Crime Victim Advocate to improve how it investigates sexual assaults.
McDermott brings respect for citizens, compassion for victims and a commitment to making positive change to the justice system. McDermott faces a primary challenge from the same opponent who he beat twice in the same election cycle four years ago.
On June 5th I’ll be voting for leadership, experience, integrity and honesty. Please join me in voting for T.J. McDermott.
