Dogtown Structure Saved

SEELEY LAKE – Seeley Lake Volunteer Fire Department responded to a structure fire on Shoreline Court the evening of April 19. Firefighter contained the fire to one area of the home but there was smoke damage throughout. No one was injured during the incident. While the cause of the fire is still under investigation, no foul play is suspected.

According to Seeley Lake's new Fire Chief Dave Lane, a member of the public called in the fire on Thursday around 8:30 p.m. They reported there was smoke coming from the eves. No one was home at the time the fire broke out.

First responders were on scene within 10 minutes of the dispatch. Smoke was coming from the eves.

Because responders were unable to locate the power meter, Missoula Electric Cooperative was called to secure the power. Firefighters used exterior firefighting tactics from the front door to keep the fire from progressing.

Once power to the home was shut off, firefighters went interior. They contained the blaze by 9:30 p.m.

"That was pretty successful on our part," said Lane.

Lane said there were 15 firefighters and EMS responders. Greenough/Potomac Volunteer Fire Department provided one engine as mutual aid.

All resources were off the scene by 11:50 p.m.

"There was an excellent response from the volunteers. They had good response time [and is something they should be proud of]. They had good tactics and everyone played it safe and did the things they were supposed to do," said Lane. "No one got hurt, that was the best part. Thank you to all the volunteers for doing what they are taught to do."
