Blackhawks Soar at Frenchtown

FRENCHTOWN - With more than half the team out for spring break and other reasons, the remaining Seeley-Swan Blackhawks still had a great showing at the Jim Johnson Invitational March 29. The Boys took second and the Ladies took fifth out of more that 20 A, B and C class teams.

The Boys relay team consisting of Logan Robinson, Soren Moon, Hunter Shelmerdine and Dakota Wood won the 4x400 and took second in the 4x100-meter.

Nate Samuli earned the Boys only individual first place in the javelin. His throw of 150 feet, 9.5 inches is the second farthest in all of Class C this season and tenth across all classes in Montana. It was also a personal record by more than a foot.

The Boys racked up the points in the short races. Shelmerdine took second in the 400 and fifth in the 200. Robinson took second in the 200. Wood took third in both the 100 and 200 while Moon took sixth in the 400.

For the Girls, Klaire Kovatch pushed her personal record out a couple inches in the discus to 123 feet, 11.5 inches and edged out last year's state champ Jessica Thompson for first place. Kovatch also earned third in the 100-meter hurdles and fifth in the javelin.

Ashley Miller earned points with a third place in the triple jump and fourth in the long jump.

The next meet is the Frenchtown Invitational April 7 in Frenchtown.
