Council To Hold Candidate Forums Next Week

SEELEY LAKE - If you are overwhelmed by the number of candidates who are running for the U.S. Senate, the U.S. House, Fire District, Sewer District, County Commissioner, Sheriff, etc. come to the Seeley Lake Community Council’s Candidates Forums next week. Hear the candidates who are vying for your vote and grill them on the issues that are important to you.

Because of the many contested races this year and the sheer number of candidates, we decided to hold two forums.

Monday, April 9, 5:15 p.m. at the Community Center: U.S. Senate, Missoula County Commissioner, Missoula County Sheriff, Justice of the Peace and Seeley Lake Fire District.

Wednesday, April 11, 5:15 p.m. at the Community Center: U.S. House, MT House District 92 and Seeley Lake Sewer District.

Klaus von Stutterheim, organizer of the forums commented, “I am amazed and gratified how many candidates have accepted our invitation. Out of a total of 40 candidates, only six will not be present. It will make for two very interesting evenings.”

The policy of the council has always been this: if there is a contested primary in one party all the candidates from all parties for that office will be invited, even if they are not facing a primary opponent. Our thought is that if we invite candidates from one party, the candidates from the other parties who are competing for the same office should also have an opportunity to present themselves to the community.

After the April 9 Forum the Council will have a brief meeting to attend to regular Council business.

The informal part of both meetings will start at 5:15 p.m. next Monday, April 9 and Wednesday, April 11, at the Community Hall, 3248 MT Highway 83, with pizza and sodas. The forums will begin at 6 p.m.
