Junior Logan Robinson rounds the corner of the 200-meter. He finished in second place with a time of 24.86 seconds.
CORVALLIS - The Seeley-Swan Blackhawks fielded seven boys and 12 girls in the opening track meet of the season March 24. They competed against 15 A, B and C class teams.
Seeley-Swan's athletes did well despite Seeley Lake still being under a couple feet of snow and having to practice in the gym. The Girls earned 85 points for second place while the Boys took sixth with 46 points.
Klaire Kovatch and Terra Bertsch, scoring team points in three individual events each, led the Lady Blackhawks.
Kovatch threw 123 feet, 6 inches in the discus earning her first place and auto qualifying her for state. Bertsch took second place in the high jump clearing 5 feet and auto qualifying for state.
Lily Mercer took first place in the 400-meter with a time of 1:06.40 while Ashley Miller jumped 33 feet, 7 inches for first place in the triple jump.
The Girls 4x100 relay team consisting of Bertsch, Lily, Madison Hinchey and Rose Mercer placed third. Lulu Bohlman and Ashley Miller joined the Mercer sisters for a fourth place finish in the 4x400 relay.
For the Boys, Hunter Shelmerdine and Dakota Wood each scored in three individual events.
Shelmerdine took second in the 400, third in the 200-meter and triple jumped 39 feet 8.25 inches for fourth place and a new personal record.
Wood ran for third place in the 100 and sixth in the 200-meter. Wood also set a personal record in the triple jump and earned sixth place with a jump of 38 feet 10 inches.
Logan Robinson and Soren Moon joined Shelmerdine and Wood taking second in the 4x400 relay.
The next meet is the Jim Johnson Invitational March 29 in Frenchtown.
