POTOMAC – The Potomac Pioneers finished strong upsetting Missoula International in the Copper League Small School Tournament and playing strong against Seeley Lake in their final game March 13. They finished fourth for the season in the league.
"The girls had such a great season," wrote Head Coach Raynee Pace in an email. "Our team improved so much throughout the year."
The Pioneers beat Missoula International by four points in their first tournament game. This put them up against the Eagles for a chance at the championship game.
The Eagles took an early lead and held it winning the game 42-9. Hailey Oien was the only Pioneer to put points on the board for the Pioneers.
"We ended the season in fourth place, which is definitely better than we started," said Pace. "We had a lot of learners this year, including two out of five of our eighth graders."
Potomac fought injuries and the flu this season but Pace said, "The younger girls really stepped up."
Pace hopes all the girls continue to play basketball, especially the fifth graders who made up most of their seventh grade team.
She added she is excited for the eighth grade girls to go on to high school and play on the same team as some of their Copper League rivals.
"Potomac will be sad to see our four-year players Hailey Oien, Tamra Andell and Elizabeth Boyd go," wrote Pace. "But we wish them the best of luck in the future!"
