SEELEY LAKE – What better way to shake off the winter blahs than with a plunge into Seeley Lake. Join the Seeley Lake Area Chamber of Commerce Saturday, Feb. 17 for the first annual Chamber Chill and Plunge at the Tamaracks Resort at 1 p.m. The Chamber’s Executive Director Lisa Hayhurst guarantees that this will be a “life time event that you’ll never forget.”
The Hayhurst family came up with the idea for the plunge.
“Our family has been to many plunges in the past and have always looked forward to them as they tend to have lots of energy and are family oriented,” wrote Hayhurst in an email. “As the Chamber regains momentum, we wanted to remind the members that we are new, different and stronger than ever!”
According the Hayhurst, the event is a perfect fit for the Montana Winterfest in Seeley Lake including snow, ice and ice water. She looks forward to making this an annual event where people of all ages can participate and have fun while raising money for a good cause.
“It’s a great way to get involved and give back to your community while raising money for a local charity,” wrote Hayhurst.
This year’s chamber chill not only benefits the Seeley Lake Chamber of Commerce but part of the proceeds will also benefit Seeley Lake Meals on Wheels. Hayhurst said they chose the Meals on Wheels program because, “We wanted to support a local charity that is in need of support and recognition.” Any funds raised for the chamber that exceed the cost of the event will be used to support future Chamber events.
Everyone is encouraged to arrive by 12 p.m. to get registered and change into their plunge attire. Anyone under age 18 must have a parent/legal guardian sign a waiver form prior to jumping into Seeley Lake.
The plunge starts at 1 p.m. Seeley Lake Fire Department and Seeley-Swan Search and Rescue will be on location for safety. Drinks and snacks will be served throughout the event with changing cabins and a bonfire to warm up.
There is no fee to participate, however, the Chamber is hopeful that individuals and team plungers will get their family, friends and relatives to pledge them jumping into Seeley Lake since the money raised goes to a good cause.
“We are hopeful some will get creative and wear costumes or do something a little unique in order to get additional pledges in order to win the contest,” wrote Hayhurst.
There are four top prizes, best individual and best team costume and most funds raised by an individual and collectively as a team. There is no limit to the size of the team. However, large teams may have to jump in the lake in smaller groups since the size of the hole may only permit three to five jumpers at a time.
Everyone is invited to come down and watch their neighbors plunge into Seeley Lake. There will be hot chocolate, hot cider and popcorn available for sale for plungers and spectators.
Pledge forms are available at multiple locations around Seeley Lake and by emailing the Chamber slchamber@blackfoot.net. Please make checks payable to the Seeley Lake Area Chamber of Commerce.
“Please join us for some fun,” wrote Hayhurst. “Don’t miss this once in a life time event that you’ll never forget!”
