Blackhawks Clash with Trojans and Fend Off Lynx

SEELEY LAKE - The Seeley-Swan Blackhawks and Lady Blackhawks took on Drummond Feb. 1 and then hosted Lincoln Feb. 3.

The Boys had a great game against the Trojans at Drummond. They jumped to an early lead in the first quarter and dominated the second half only allowing two baskets in each quarter.

The Blackhawks played a cleaner game than when the teams last met. They gave the Trojans only 5 attempts from the free throw line versus 27 in the last game. The final score was 48-26.

Cameron Haines led the Blackhawks scoring 17 points. He hit 3 of the teams' 5, three pointers.

Also scoring: Keaton Johnson 9, Avery Smith 7, Dakota Wood 4, Chance Johnson 4, Cordell Turner 3, Owen Mercado 2 and Hunter Shelmerdine 2.

The Lady Blackhawks did not fair as well against Drummond. They came out strong in the first quarter but fell to a 9-point deficit by the half. After the break, the Ladies matched Drummond in the third quarter but hit a wall in the final frame. The final score was 20-41.

Ashley Miller was the Lady Blackhawks' top scorer with 9 points.

Also scoring: Terra Bertsch 4, Chloe Robbins 4 and Autumn Morse 3.

Back on the home court, the Boys got the pleasure of defeating the Lincoln Lynx twice in one afternoon. They had to finish up a game started Jan. 6. With 4:53 to play in the final quarter and the Blackhawks leading 66-48, the power grid in Lincoln went down forcing the delayed finish. The Blackhawks picked up right where they left off racking up another 10 points to a 72-52 victory.

Keaton led the Blackhawks in the delayed game with 17 points. Smith and Shelmerdine both broke into the double digits as well scoring 14 and 11. Chance was 100 percent from the free throw line sinking 5 for 5.

Also scoring: Chance 9, Haines 7, Wood 6, Hunter Sokoloski 5, Turner 4 and Gunner Sloan 3.

Starting with a clean slate a couple hours later, the Boys squared off with Lincoln again. With Lincoln's top scorer from the first game Nathan Brown unable to play the second game, the Blackhawks dominated. The final score was 55-18.

Haines was on from the three-point line, hitting three shots on his way to 17 points in the game. Haines and Chance were both 100 percent from the foul line.

All the Boys on the Blackhawks bench got a piece of the action with everyone scoring at least one basket.

Also scoring: Smith 9, Keaton 6, Wood 6, Sokoloski 5, Chance 4, Mercado 3, Turner 3 and Shelmerdine 2.

The Lady Blackhawks also found success against Lincoln. Lincoln hung out with them for a chunk of the first quarter but the Ladies soon had some breathing room leading by 11 at the half. The Lady Blackhawks extended their lead in the third quarter and coasted to the 60-39 win.

Bertsch put in 6 baskets and a free throw to lead the Ladies with 13 points.

Also scoring: Robbins 8, Morse 7, Bethany Hoag 7, Klaire Kovatch 6, Taylor Dillree 5, Aspen Conley 4, Lily Mercer 4, Jory Towe 4 and Miller 2.

This Week

This week the Blackhawks and Lady Blackhawks head to Darby Feb. 8 with games starting at 2:30 p.m.

They then host Victor Feb. 10 with games starting at 1 p.m. Being the final home game of the season, seniors will be recognized at 4 p.m. ahead of the Varsity Lady Blackhawks game.
