The Seeley-Swan Blackhawks and Lady Blackhawks faced a pair of district foes last week. They hosted the Darby Tigers Jan. 12 and then traveled to take on the Pirates of Victor Jan. 13.
The Boys traded shots with the Tigers early in the game and built a small lead by the half. The Tigers took a couple of runs at the Blackhawks throughout the game but the Blackhawks always stayed a couple shots ahead. The final score was 56-51.
Four Blackhawks scored into the double digits. Chance Johnson and Cameron Haines lead, scoring 13 each. Keaton Johnson and Avery Smith each scored 10. Haines hit 2 of the teams three-pointers.
Also scoring: Gunner Sloan 4, Dakota Wood 4 and Hunter Shelmerdine 2.
The Lady Blackhawks led the Tigers off and on though the first half the game. They headed into the second half down just 3 points but soon found themselves falling further behind.
By midway through the third quarter the Lady Blackhawks were trailing by 12 points. They cut the Tigers lead down to 6 points before heading into the final quarter.
The Lady Blackhawks fought hard in the fourth quarter. With less than a minute to go, they pulled within one point of the Tigers. After a pair of free throws from Terra Bertsch, the Lady Blackhawks took the lead.
With less than 20 seconds on the clock, a foul sent the Tigers's top shooter Casey Ehmann to the free throw line and she tied it up.
In the final seconds, another Lady Blackhawks' foul and a pair of free throws from Ehmann sealed the Ladies' fate. The Lady Blackhawks fell, 51-53.
Autumn Morse led the Ladies against the Tigers with 13 points. She hit 3 of the teams' 4 three-pointers. Terra Bertsch and Klaire Kovatch were right behind with 11 points each.
Also scoring: Ashley Miller 9, Chloe Robbins 5 and Lily Mercer 2.
The Pirates proved to be a less than worthy opponent for the Blackhawks. The boys whipped them in the first quarter 24-5 and rode it out to a final score of 75-44.
Sloan pounded in 18 points to lead the Blackhawks while Smith followed close behind with 17.
Also scoring: Haines 13, Keaton 10, Chance 8, Shelmerdine 3, Hunter Sokoloski 2 and Owen Mercado 2.
The Lady Blackhawks met even less resistance from the Pirates. They blew the game out in every quarter holding the Pirates to just 2 baskets and 3 free throws. The final score was 58-9.
Robbins led the Ladies with 15 points. Every girl on the Lady Blackhawks' bench put points on the board.
Also scoring: Bertsch 8, Morse 6, Miller 6, Bethany Hoag 6, Jory Towe 5, Kovatch 2, Kara Good 2, Lily 2, Rose Mercer 2, Aspen Conley 2 and Taylor Dillree 2.
This Week
This week the Blackhawks and Lady Blackhawks are at home. They host Valley Christian Jan. 19 with JV Boys starting at 4 p.m. No JV Girls. They will then face Drummond Jan. 20 with games starting at 1 p.m.
