Holmes Named Commonwealth Coast Conference Player of the Week
SPRINGFIELD, MASS. - Senior Shelby Holmes of the Eastern Nazarene College Lions women's basketball team was named the Commonwealth Coast Conference Player of the Week. Holmes graduated from Seeley-Swan High School in 2014.
Holmes poured in a game-high 18 points to lead the Lions to a 56-45 victory over Universidad Metropolitana down in Puerto Rico.
Holmes connected on six of seven attempts from the floor and went three for four from behind the arc. She converted all three of her free throw attempts in the win. She also chipped in with four rebounds and one steal in the contest.
After graduating from SSHS, Holmes played basketball for Miles Community College. She transferred last year to Eastern Nazarene College as a junior. Last year her team made it to the semi finals before being beat by the team that won the championship.
"This recognition is motivation for me to keep working to make my team better," wrote Holmes in an email. "I have a little more than half of my senior year left and I just want to help the younger girls on my team. I think as a senior I have a responsibility to lead and help show the way!"
Holmes continued, "I couldn't have done anything with out the amazing support my hometown of Seeley Lake has shown me over the last four years, the support from my parents, my grandparents, my sisters and the amazing coaches I have had over the last four years."
