Swan Song
SWAN VALLEY - June was born in Missoula on June 26, 1922 to Ruby and Chester Smith. She attended schools in Missoula and Helena and shared colorful tales of childhood on her grandparent's homestead in Perma.
June's first marriage to Grant Malcolm produced a son John and daughter Carol. June was licensed in Swedish Massage, in practice with her mother (Ruby Weston).
Mom later married Arden Riebe, rounding out the family with two more fine sons, Thomas and Terry.
Lastly, June wed Lester "Dobb" Wilhelm of Condon. Her years living in beautiful Swan Valley were the happiest of her life. There, she proudly served with the Condon QRU, did some bartending and green-chain operating and best of all honed her hunting and fishing skills.
June is survived by daughter Carol Shepherd, sons Thomas Riebe (Sally Anderson) and Terry Riebe (Donna) all of Missoula; granddaughter Cary Shepherd (John Sprinkle) of Butte. In Maryland, grandson Lynn Malcolm (Angela) and granddaughter Linda Malcolm.
She was preceded in death by her husbands and beloved son John (Joy) of Maryland.
"June Bug" was a force to be reckoned with - a spitfire who lived her 95 years to the hilt.
Our family extends gratitude to Sakai, Mia and Emma - compassionate caregivers of Partners In Home Care/Hospice. Thanks for easing Mom's transition from home-care to Hillside Manor. It was there she passed of natural causes on Saturday, Dec. 2.
Also, big hugs to cousin Ruby White of Point Roberts, Washington. Her years of weekly phone calls kept Mom informed and fired up.
As per June's request, no services are planned at this time.
