Questions Over Sewer Protest Procedures

SEELEY LAKE - Since the start of the Seeley Lake Sewer District’s protest period I’ve received a handful of questions from landowners regarding the process. Generally speaking if we receive enough questions from people we look into it for an article because most likely there more people out there with the same questions.

Normally that works great, we get peoples’ questions answered and move on. I put out an email with these questions to District Manager Greg Robertson but he has refused to answer any of them saying that if people want their questions answered they must call him personally.

If you have any of the following questions, Robertson’s number is 406-258-4818:

• If a person owns multiple lots, can they list them in one letter of protest or do they need separate letters for each lot?

• Can someone other than the landowner drop off the protest at the Seeley Lake Water District Office or does this somehow void that protest?

• If there are multiple owners of one lot, do all the signatures have to appear on a single letter or can each party send a separate letter?

• If a person is buying a lot and the old owners appear on the sewer district’s tax roll, who must sign the protest for it to be counted?

• In the notice it states that people can use their Tax ID number to identify the property they are protesting but some people have combined multiple lots under a single Tax ID number. Do they have to specifically identify each of those lots in order for them to all be counted?

• Does everyone in a family trust or other business structure have to sign or just a designated representative of the trust or business?

• If a deceased person appears on the sewer district’s tax roll, who can protest that lot?
