SEELEY LAKE – The Seeley Lake Leos Club collected 10 turkeys and more than $750 for the Seeley-Swan Community Food Bank during their Turkey Drive Nov. 17. The event was a huge success.
Leos Club President Ibby Lorentz said the club chose this as a service project because there is no longer a community Thanksgiving dinner in Seeley Lake.
"The Seeley Lake Lions Club does a food drive for Christmas," said Lorentz. "We thought Thanksgiving would be a good time to give back."
The Leos collected frozen turkeys and donations at Cory's Valley Market, Rovero's and the US Post Office in Seeley Lake for two hours.
"This is the first time we have done this and it was a lot of fun," said Leo Club member Jenna Harnisch-Colby. "I love helping the community."
Food Bank Volunteer Coordinator Sheree Hill said the Food Bank ordered 30 turkeys for Thanksgiving for their clients. They were already out of vouchers.
"On behalf of the Food Bank I would like to thank the Leos for holding a turkey drive. Now we can give turkeys to the clients who didn't get them," said Hill. "This community never ceases to amaze me."
"I'd like to thank the community, the Lions Club, Food Bank and the other Leo members for their support and Rovero's, the Post Office and Cory's for letting us set up and collect turkeys," said Lorentz. "All of these people made the turkey drive successful."
