SEELEY LAKE – Veterans and members of the public joined together Nov. 11 at 11 p.m. to honor and thank the veterans in the Seeley Lake community. The Veterans and Families of Seeley Lake hosted the ceremony at the Veterans Memorial Park.
VFSL President Barbara Knopp led the ceremony.
"Today there is and perhaps there always will be conflict in the world," said Knopp. "But the United States fortunately enjoys peace and freedom. Like other things of great value this security did not come cheaply."
Those men and women who answered the call to military duty for 12 wars from the Revolution to the war in Iraq and Afghanistan paid part of the cost. The rest of the cost continues to be paid long after the gun fire stopped. Knopp encouraged those present to continue to help those veterans in need even when they don't ask for special help and appreciate and acknowledge their service and sacrifice.
"Today we recognize those who protected and continue to protect our way of life," said Knopp. "Today we want to honor and thank our veterans. Without them we wouldn't be where we are today. We must honor them every day...and take an active part in maintaining freedom in America."
The VFSL is hosting a free dinner for veterans and their spouses Dec. 7 starting at 5 p.m. Please RSVP by Nov. 30 by calling 677-7259.
