POTOMAC - This year Potomac School had enough players and coaches to have Pioneer flag-ripping power on their flag football team. Last year players and coaches were lacking. With community members stepping up to coach and students participating this fall, this season was guaranteed.
Ben Jones was the head coach, Marty Preston and Jake Nissen were assistant coaches. Team parents said they were grateful for the coaches.
"Luckily our community has some great people that are willing to donate their personal time for the betterment of the kids," said parent Jessie Salter.
Practices began Sept. 5. Potomac began and ended their season against Lone Rock. The Pioneers played a total of eight games.
Although the Pioneers didn't have any wins, the team showed major improvement, according to assistant coach Preston. He also said Lone Rock also commented that Potomac had really improved.
"From the first game getting creamed to almost beating them in the last game we really did improve," said Preston.
Potomac sixth grader Chase Salter played left guard on offense and middle linebacker on defense. "I learned different plays," he said. He also learned the rules of flag football.
Chase added, "The best part was having enough players to make a team and having someone to coach us!"
"I had a great time doing it [coaching flag football], I loved it and am interested in coaching again," said Preston.
