Seeley Lake Fire Board Chair Responds to Chief Resignation

SEELEY LAKE - As some of you may know after an extended period of time off, our chief resigned at our district board meeting held Oct. 17 which was effective immediately. We want to thank Bob for his last three years of service to the community and wish him well and success in his future endeavors.

Moving ahead, I want to assure everyone that operationally nothing has changed and business and emergency response will go on as usual. We have more than 20 members on the department that are firefighters and most of them are also cross-trained as Emergency Medical Technicians. Most of these volunteers have been with the department for quite some time and are very experienced and qualified. No volunteers have resigned as rumor may have it. Please help me thank all of these volunteers who respond and are committed to serving our community.

Following our command structure, we have Captains that will be in charge of operations during the interim. During this transition period, it will give us some new opportunities to review and streamline operations and enhance service to our community. I will do my best to offer suggestions and present ideas to the board for review and solicit support within this transition. Moving forward is essential to success and providing the best service to our community.

Administratively, this will create some additional work for our District Administrator Lynn Richards. As Chairman of the board, I have offered my assistance and will be working side-by-side with her through the process and making sure the transition going forward is smooth administratively, complying with all laws, regulations and policies that can be quite complex. Also, because I am a firefighter/EMT, I will be offering assistance as requested with regards to operations and supporting the officers.

We are still sorting through the process, and once we get settled, we will have a district board meeting in the near future to look at our options and start the search process and future planning.

If you have any questions feel free to contact me at anytime. My door is always open.

Sincerely,

Scott Kennedy

Chairman of The Board

Seeley Lake Rural Fire District

Missoula County, Montana
