Seeley Lake Truck-or-Treat Returns Oct. 31 at Wilderness Gateway Inn

SEELEY LAKE – Wilderness Gateway Inn, south of Cory’s Valley Market, will be hosting the fourth annual Seeley Lake Truck-or-Treat from 6-8 p.m. Oct. 31. Everyone is encouraged to decorate a trunk and come out for an evening of fun.

There are a lot of ideas online and on the Seeley Lake Truck-or-Treat Facebook page. Organizers ask that the trunks can be as simple or elaborate as the owner chooses, “just keep it friendly for the youngsters.”

Set up will begin for trunks at 5 p.m. and all trunks need to be in place by 5:45 p.m. and stay until event is over. The event will run from 6-8 p.m. Last year they counted 150 trick-or-treaters at the event.

For more information and to sign up message the organizers on the Seeley Lake Truck-or-Treat Facebook page or call Mark at 210-7175.

District Advising Hunters of Post Fire Work Behind Gates

SEELEY LAKE - Seeley Lake Ranger District officials are advising hunters to be aware of activity behind closed gates as Forest Service employees continue post-fire recovery and repair work this fall in the Rice Ridge Fire burned area and along adjacent roads in the district.

Much of the work will involve preparing, processing and hauling “decks” of logs that were removed during fireline construction associated with the Rice Ridge Fire. There will also be some roadwork, such as culvert replacement and road improvement work.

Roads where the work will likely occur includes much of the area within, or adjacent to, the Rice Ridge Fire perimeter – in particular the south side of the fire perimeter but also extending to the Monture Creek area. This includes most of the major access roads in this area, including roads that are closed seasonally (closed in the fall during hunting season). The work will likely continue until heavy snowfall arrives in the area.

The work is continuing this fall so that crews can finish fireline repair work, including Burned Area Emergency Response (BAER) and process for sale the log decks in the area. For more information on BAER work please visit https://inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/5627/

Crews will be placing signs on the gates when they travel on one of these roads to advise hunters and others of the presence of employees (please see attached image).

Seeley Lake Library News

SEELEY LAKE - The Seeley Lake Library Book Club will discuss Willa Cather’s “A Lost Lady” on Wednesday, November 15 at 11am. In 1922 Cather complained that the modern novel was “over furnished” so she pared her own fiction to its essentials. “A Lost Lady” is an example of this minimalism as it traces the life of Mrs. Forrester, the resident aristocrat of a remote railroad town on the Western frontier. Many critics consider this to be one of Cather’s “finest works overall.”

This discussion is open to all. Books are available at the checkout desk. For more information call 677-8995.

The Seeley Lake Library is a branch of Missoula Public Library located at Seeley-Swan High School. The library is open to the public Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. and Wednesdays from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.
