Blackhawks Step It Up

THOMPSON FALLS, MONT. – The Blackhawks took to the course in Thompson Falls for their second meet of the season. Even on the harder course, Cordell Turner, Levi Reinitz and Aydin Bayford shaved off nearly a minute from their meet in Pablo, Mont.

Dual athletes Logan Maughan and Caleb Maughan joined the team this week and led the Blackhawks. Logan finished in 19:30, 31 out of 93 racers, with his younger brother Caleb crossing the finish line less than a minute later with a time of 20:25.

Senior Cameron Haines also returned to the team this week and finished in 21:35.50, coming in third for the Blackhawks.

Junior Cordell Turner finished 68 of 93 racers in 22:13.96, 51 seconds faster than his time in Pablo. Levi Reinitz took a full minute off last week's time running a 26:31.60.

The Blackhawks finished second behind Charlo with the top three runners. When Turner and Lane Mackie-Wendel were added, Seeley came in first for the C schools at the meet and 10th of 17 teams overall.

"I'm just so proud of how hard these kids are working," said Head Coach Zelda Haines.

Junior Chloe Robbins joined Jayla Kauffman on the course for the Lady Blackhawks. Kauffman finished in 30:08, three minutes slower than her race in Pablo. Coach Haines attributed that to the hills on the course. Robbins finished in 35:06, just six seconds short of qualifying for state.

In the middle school race sixth-grader Aydin Bayford finished ninth out of 48 boys with a time of 13:42. Eighth-grader Chase Haines raced for the first time this season and ran a 14:46, placing him 17th.

This week the Blackhawks will be in Missoula, Saturday, Sept. 30 for the annual Mountain West meet.
