Opening of New Installation Friday
Blackfoot Pathways: Sculpture in the Wild invites the public to the opening of the Lincoln sculpture park’s latest installation, a woven-willow masterpiece by acclaimed artist Patrick Dougherty.
For the past three weeks artist-in-residence Dougherty and his band of volunteers from across the U.S. twisted, weaved and entangled thousands of willow saplings to create a whimsical, house-size sculpture in the park on the east edge of Lincoln along Montana 200.
The launch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Friday. Come a little early (at 4 p.m.) and enjoy a performance by the Steven Gores Band from Helena in the acoustically unique Teepee Burner — up to now the park’s centerpiece.
This is the performance that had been scheduled for last weekend’s Festival in the Wild, but it was postponed because of chilly weather. The Lincoln forecast for Friday is sunny and warm. Refreshments will be available.
In spite of the cold, wet weather, last weekend’s festival was a success. Included was an online auction Friday that raised about $13,000 in support of the sculpture park.
Over the past 35 years sculptor Dougherty has created more than 300 large-scale, temporary installations around the world — at museums, sculpture parks, botanical gardens, private residences and art festivals.
Meet the artist, tour the new installation and enjoy live music Friday in Lincoln.
