SEELEY LAKE – The smoke and surrounding fires didn't stop the more than 130 senior golfers who took to the Double Arrow Golf Course this past weekend for the annual Salmon Bake Tournament. Golfers competed for bragging rights and pro shop credit. One lucky golfer had the chance to putt for a new golf cart.
Double Arrow Golf Pro Tim Bakker said this is just one of the many tournaments the course puts on during the summer. This one fills quickly with golfers from the area and as far away as Seattle, Wash.
To compete in this tournament, golfers must be 50 years or older. They had a shotgun start Saturday morning, followed by a salmon dinner at the Double Arrow Lodge Saturday night. Teams headed back to the course for the second round Sunday.
Bakker estimates that 50-60 percent of the participants will win some pro shop credit.
"It's a lot of friends and people who have cabins here," said Bakker. "It's something to bring more golfers in for the day and generate interest for the facility, the golf course and the lodge."
