MISSOULA – Smoke from wildfires around Western Montana settled in Missoula but that didn't dampen the enthusiasm of fair-goers and exhibitors at the Western Montana Fair.
The Seeley Lake Trailblazers and Potomac Valley 4-H Club sent a combined 41 youth to the fair as exhibitors in livestock raising, shooting and everything in between.
Condon resident James Webb came away with two purple ribbons for his hogs, while his brother Levi earned four purple for his lambs.
Seeley's steer group swept the scene with purple ribbons across the board. Two pairs of siblings; Dani and Gabby Sexton and Kaden and Alexa Sunderland each won purple ribbons in the market steer competition. Dani, a recipient of the Mark Teague Memorial Scholarship, and her steer T-Bone also finished third overall in the county for steer showmanship.
Amanda Thomas breeds sheep and dominated in the half dozen categories she competed in with her lambs.
Archer Bethany Hoag took second in her age group in the Limited Division. Amber Springer finished first place in her air rifle division.
Nicole Williams earned blue ribbons for her Teen Leadership Project that celebrated 25 years of the Seeley Lake Trailblazers.
Seeley Lake Trailblazers 4-H Club Results: 4-H uses the Danish system in the judging process. Top ribbons include grand and reserve champion, followed by a purple group (P – top in their class), blue group (B), red group (R) and white group (W – participation ribbon) according to the placing received. The letter following each project indicates ribbon received.
