Leos Join Lions for Highway Cleanup

SEELEY LAKE – It's that time of year where local groups and organizations clean the ditches of Highway 83 to help beautify the valley. The Seeley Lake Lions Club is no exception. This year, they had five Leos join them for the Leos' first community project.

The objective of the Leo Club is to provide youth with the opportunity for development and contribution, individually and collectively, as responsible members of the local, national and international community. The Leo motto is Leadership, Experience and Opportunity. Community service remains the cornerstone of the program, fostering a lifetime commitment to helping others.

The Seeley Lake Lions Club, in cooperation with the Seeley-Swan High School (SSHS), started a Leo Club this spring. SSHS Leos Faculty Advisor and Lion Mary Stone said there are 15 freshman, sophomores and juniors signed up as members.

Leos Elizabeth Done, Jared Townsend, Cecilia Ruppert, Ella Batchelder and Jory Towe were a part of this first community project.

Done said she was excited to join the Leo Club because there are not a lot of volunteer opportunities in the community for high school students. "This is a great way to serve our community," said Done. Townsend, Roberts and Batchelder agreed.

The Lions Club is thankful for Stone's willingness and enthusiasm about the Leo Club and for getting the students excited about service. They would have had more students for the highway cleanup but many were participating in a track meet. Lion Tim Berry was happy with the turn out and looks forward to more service opportunities in the future with the Leos.

To get involved or for more information please contact Stone at SSHS 677-2224 or Lion Berry, 406-291-9005.
