Stand Up to Mismanagement and Demand Change

That was a great guest column article by Senator Fred Thomas in the March 21 edition of the Missoulian.

Senator Thomas was right on target with respect to mismanagement of our public lands by the Federal Government and the tremendous waste created by senseless lawsuits filed by environmental groups.

Given the facts that Senator Thomas has exposed in his article to the Missoulian, if Governor Bullock thinks the State of Montana cannot do a better job of managing our public lands, then just imagine what a competent governor that believes in his administration could do.

Since the creation of the National Forest Service, my family in Montana has noticed a steady decline in access to these public lands. It seems the National Forest Service has now devised a plan with regards to their trail systems for special interest groups that divides our citizens. In my opinion it is nothing more than the U.S. Forest Service manipulation of these certain groups for the purpose of justifying their continued efforts to limit access to public lands by the general public.

What about our disabled folks, including disabled veterans and our elderly who cannot ride bikes, horses or snowmobiles? Don’t they have just as much right to access public lands as these special interest groups? Don’t the taxpayers of Montana have more of a right to manage and benefit from timber harvest, than environmentalists from other states have to waste these resources as a result of consequential fires from mismanagement?

It is high time to stand up to this mismanagement and demand the changes Senator Thomas has called for.

Write letters to your State Legislators, the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Secretary of the Interior and support those who represent all the people.
