Fill the Truck with Shoes Supports Missoula County 4-H Livestock Sales

SEELEY LAKE & POTOMAC – The Seeley Lake Trailblazers and Potomac 4-H Clubs are joining with the other 4H clubs who attend the Western Montana Fair to collect gently worn, used and new shoes. This effort is a fundraiser with Funds2Orgs to raise funds to benefit the Western Montana Fair 4H/FFA Livestock Marketing Committee's (Committee) promotion of the 4H livestock sale at the County Fair. In Seeley Lake, shoes can be dropped off at Seeley Lake Elementary (SLE) or at ReMarkable Floral until April 5. In Potomac call Sigrid Olson, 244-3621 or give to any 4-H member.

All used and new shoes except snow boots and ice skates are accepted as long as they are clean and serviceable. They need to be rubber banded together and in a plastic bag when donated.

The Committee's goal is to fill 300 bags with 25 pairs of shoes by April 7. They will be paid by the pound for the shoes by Funds2Orgs.

Funds2Orgs consolidates the shoes collected and ships them to developing nations around the world. The shoes are then sold by micro-entrepreneurs who have little to no income or livelihood.

The Funds2Org website says, "The ability of donated shoes to be sold or repurposed, represent an opportunity for individual families and their communities to develop micro-businesses within their areas. Funds2Orgs is dedicated to helping these micro-entrepreneurs live a better life, while helping charities, schools, churches and civic groups in the U.S. make a difference in their communities."

According to the Committee for every dollar they spend promoting the 4-H student, livestock sales increased by two to three dollars.

"Not only will the fundraiser benefit [the 4H] livestock sale and members but we will be providing shoes to individuals in need," said the Committee's poster.
