SEELEY LAKE – Despite sub-zero temperatures Friday night and Saturday morning, the seventh annual Seeley Lake Pond Hockey (SLPH) tournament was another success. Event Coordinator Megan Lindemer said the teams were happy with the online scheduling, the volunteers could not have been better and everyone just had a great time again this year.
Because of sub-zero temperatures Saturday morning, organizers delayed the games for two hours.
"That made scheduling a little hard," said Lindemer. "But we had really awesome volunteers that were willing to do whatever and most of the teams were pretty cool with it. They understood they didn't want to play in 20 below weather."
Even though they had to rearrange the schedule, all the teams still had the opportunity to play four games, one Friday, two Saturday and at least one on Sunday. The online scheduling was fully operational this year giving teams and spectators the opportunity to see when and who they were playing on the SLPH website. Only those teams whose opponents didn't show up missed their games.
The Flying V's (Team YMV in the schedule) took the BAMF's three-year title winning the A League championship. Pony Bar (Blueribs on the schedule) in the B League and Soft Dump in the Corner in the Co-Rec League defended their titles from last year.
In the Women's League, Biscuit Whackers took out SheWee for their name on the SLPH Cup. Tampond Hockey from the Women's League earned the Golden Shovel Award for shoveling the rink the most times, an honor given to the losing team.
"Everyone is just here to have fun and be together and play hockey and drink beer," said Lindemer. "It was really great."
