Potomac Community Treated to Students' Holiday Spirit

POTOMAC - It was a packed house as more than 275 people sat under festive lighting in the Potomac/Greenough Community Center (PGCC) Dec. 21 for the annual Potomac School Holiday Program.

Directed by Potomac teacher Renee Clairmont, grades kindergarten through seventh sang, read, danced and acted out Christmas for the audience.

Principal Angie Williams gave the welcome which was followed by the fifth and sixth-graders singing "Deck the Halls" as they decorated a Christmas tree in front of the stage.

Student Lauren Nordberg narrated the program and the "12 Days of Christmas" along with the other fifth graders. Second and third-graders told holiday jokes at intervals between presentations such as "What did one Christmas tree say to the other?" "You have a very good point."

"Jingle Bell Rock" and "Winter Wonderland" was sung while the stage was covered with rockin' fourth-graders.

"Up On the Housetop" and "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" was a red-nose blinking collaboration between the kindergarten and first grades.

Fourth-graders acted out a Mistletoe skit and then seventh graders performed "Let it Snow."

Hailey Oien and Maggie Vann played instrumental "Jingle Bells", "Up On the Housetop", "Jolly Old Saint Nick" and "Merry Christmas".

During the "Battle of Christmas Eve" skit, (played by fifth and sixth grades) Jack Frost, the Grinch and The Rat King fought over Christmas.

The soft sound of the seventh and eighth grade chimes class led by teacher Sarah Schmill held the audience still as they listened to students play songs including "Carol of the Bells," "Drummer Boy," "Silent Night," "The Nutcracker" and "We Wish You a Merry Christmas."

"Jingle Bells" was sung and performed by the second and third-graders followed by the fourth-grade drummers playing "The Little Drummer Boy."

With a twist on the program, the seventh-graders gathered the kindergarten through third grade students next to the Christmas tree and took turns reading aloud the classic story "'Twas the Night Before Christmas."

Towards the end of the last song, "Santa Claus is Coming to Town," sung by the sixth-graders, special visitor Santa Claus arrived just in time to pass out sugarplums to the students and Potomac children.

Community members agreed it was one of the biggest and best programs ever.
