Sewer to be Discussed at Next Council Meeting

SEELEY LAKE - Next Monday’s Seeley Lake Community Council meeting promises to be a lively event, dealing with perhaps the most controversial issue that has arisen here in recent years: the proposed sewer project.

Many questions have been asked about the sewer project including what the proposed sewer will accomplish, how it will be financed and its final cost to the consumer, the district covered and why other locations were not included, the technology and methodology to implement it and whether a sewer system is needed at all.

The aim of Monday’s council meeting is to provide answers to these and other questions and for community members to air their views. Representatives of the Sewer District, Missoula County Engineering and Health Departments, USDA Rural Development, which is planning a financing package including a multi-million dollar grant for the project, and the engineering firm, who designed the system, are coming to the meeting to answer any and all questions.

Voters will have a chance to cast their vote in favor of or in opposition to a proposed bond issue that would be part of the financing package for the sewer. Ballots will be mailed out Nov. 23 and are due back Dec. 13. Eligible voters have to either live in the sewer district or own property there.

Like always, there will be an opportunity for public comments on non-agenda items.

The informal part of the meeting will start at 5:30 p.m. next Monday, Nov. 14, at the Seeley Lake Historical Museum and Visitors Center, 2920 Highway 83, with pizza and sodas.
