Please consider this when making your choice between Kristen Juras and Dirk Sandefur to fill a seat on the Montana Supreme Court (MSC).
First, the Democratic Party supports Sandefur (“Montana Democrats’ spending in Supreme Court race set to break fundraising record,” missoulian.com/By Jayme Fraser, Oct. 26, 2016). Democrats and trial lawyers have spent over $500,000 for Sandefur while three law firms (Paoli, -Missoula, Blewett, Great Falls, and Clifford Edwards, Billings have contributed $146,347. (Montana Law-PAC). Blewett has cases before the Sandefur Court.
Second, Juras has been lampooned electronically and publically for her Christian “bias” and her lack of courtroom experience. Classic example of a nasty fact: The best defense is a harsh, continuous offense.
Sandefur has judicial experience, but the MSC already seats former county attorney, attorney general, assistant attorney general, district court judge, and administrative law judge. Juras’s 34 years’ experience in private sector, transactional law will provide the diversity necessary for fair and impartial discussion. Plus, her expertise in water rights is important to agriculture as those cases are looming on the legal horizon. (And no, she won’t overturn our stream access law!)
As for Juras’ Christian “bias” – let’s be honest. Christianity is a fundamental part of one’s character; I believe it instills integrity and a commitment to ethical behavior. Kristen Juras has the integrity to restrict her Christian “bias” to a private prayer for wisdom in a court case. Let’s not be part of the unfortunate American move to remove faith from public life (Newsmax, Nov. 2016).
