SEELEY LAKE – The Seeley Lake Elementary Eagles flag football team ended their season with a win at home against Clinton, Oct. 13. Their record for the season was 6-4-1.
Head Coach Brett Haines said despite a few little disappointments with some of the earlier games, the athletes really worked together as a team in the end.
Haines said eighth-grader Beau Sloan had a good year, always playing tough and having a good attitude.
"I will miss having Beau on the team next year," said Haines.
Haines was happy with how hard the rest of the eighth-graders Kayden Kimmel, Merle Boast, Soren Moon and Nick Bedson played this year.
Haines also said seventh-grader Sawyer Shelmerdine helped carry the team and seventh-grader Walker McDonald scored quite a few touchdowns.
"We really ended as a team with everybody playing together, having a good attitude and finishing on a really good note with a win," said Haines.
In the last home game against Clinton, the Eagles were missing two of the eighth-graders.
"We had to rely on some of our sixth-graders to step up in that game and they did well," said Haines. Sixth-grader Wyatt Stout quarterbacked the whole game and Haines brought up sixth-graders Cullen Bertsch, Johnny Stout, Owen Hoag and Sean Mercado.
In the first half, quarterback Wyatt Stout hit Walker McDonald for two touchdowns. Klayton Kovatch ran one in bringing the score to 22.
The Eagles allowed Clinton one touchdown in the third quarter. The final touchdown for Clinton came in the last 10 seconds of the game. The Eagles won 22-14.
Members of the Seeley-Swan High School Blackhawks football team came in uniform to support the Eagles.
