Sandefur for MT Supreme Court, Marx for HD92

With just about two weeks left in the nastiest campaign of our lives, we are breathing a sigh of relief that it’s almost over. Our mailboxes are overflowing, and it’s virtually impossible to separate fact from fiction in candidates’ mailings and to decide which negative claims about opponents are valid and which are out of context or actual untruths.

And while surely no one needs advice on the top of the ticket, there is one statewide race and a couple of local races that deserve comment.

One of the more obscure yet very important elections is the race for Montana Supreme Court. Highly respected Judge Dirk Sandefur is running against an opponent who has never been on the bench, has no litigation experience and is backed largely by out-of-state money.

Sandefur, on the other hand, was re-elected twice as a district judge in Great Falls with 88 percent of the vote and has served with distinction. He enjoys the strong support of Montana’s legal community and he has been endorsed by 10 former Supreme Court judges. We need to elect Sandefur to maintain Montana’s Supreme Court’s independence and stature.

In local elections one of our own is running for State Representative in House District 92. Addrien Marx has been a wonderful member of our community for decades. The former owner of Rovero’s, she has worked tirelessly for Seeley Lake, served on countless boards and committees and advocated passionately to make our little town a better place for everybody. What could be more exciting than to have Addrien represent the interests of all of Montana with special love for Seeley Lake in the legislature?

Two other local races warrant mention also. Dave Strohmaier is by far the best candidate for County Commissioner. Sue Malek is running for re-election as State Senator in Senate District 46. She has done a terrific job and has been very responsive to Seeley Lake whenever we needed her. She deserves our support.
