Second Annual Sock Hop Fights Hunger

SEELEY LAKE - Attendees rock n' rolled at the Seeley-Swan Food Bank's (SSFB) second annual Sock Hop, Friday, Oct. 7. They enjoyed a spaghetti dinner, silent and live auction, and tunes from an old fashion jukebox all to help fight hunger in the valleys.

From January through September, the SSFB served 271 households and 695 individuals. Volunteers have put in 445 hours giving out nearly 13,700 pounds of food.

The organizers were happy with the turn out. They were thankful for those that attended and all the businesses and individuals who donated items for the auctions.

"The community and their donations really made for a great night," said SSFB Secretary Sheree Hill. "I'm glad to see people dancing."

SSFB President Karen Montgomery said all the proceeds from the event go directly to the Food Bank to help put food in the hands of those that need it in the valleys.

"Every little bit helps," added SSFB Treasurer Laura Cullen.

Customers at Cory's Valley Market will be able to purchase $10 brown bags for the food bank starting Oct. 20. The Veterans and Families of Seeley Lake pack the bags with needed items. This food drive helps stock the shelves for the holidays.

The Food Bank is open every Tuesday (except the fifth Tuesday of the month) from 12-4 p.m. It is located next to the entrance to the multipurpose room at Seeley Lake Elementary school. For more information or to volunteer contact Sheree at 402-206-1720.
