Fire Danger LOW in Missoula County

MISSOULA – Recent significant and widespread rain has resulted in a drop in the fire danger in Missoula County. Wildland fire officials with the Missoula County Fire Protection Association (MCFPA) have dropped fire danger within Missoula County from MODERATE to LOW, the lowest level of fire danger.

Recent days have seen lower temperatures, higher relative humidity and widespread precipitation.  The forecast for the next several days is similar.

Hundreds of people in Missoula County have Prescribed Wildland and Essential Agriculture burn permits. They need to be aware that fire danger conditions can change rapidly on sunny, windy days. Fire danger is LOW, but not “ZERO,” so permitted burners should never let their guard down. If burns escape, permit holders could be responsible for suppression costs.

Out in the woods, hunters and campers need to make sure their warming fires are cold to the touch and dead-out before they break camp. Each year firefighters respond to remote areas to extinguish campfires left behind by hunters who think the fire will go out on its own.

Please “like” the Missoula County Fire Protection Association on Facebook, and get information on their webpage, http://www.mcfpa.org.
