More Transparency Needed by Sewer District

SEELEY LAKE - The argument between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton over who is more transparent just two months before the election brings to mind our local situation with the Seeley Lake Sewer District Board. With just over two months before the mail in election on the sewer, voters have no idea what the project will cost, how much their monthly bills will be and how long the debt will continue. The preliminary estimate for the first sub-district stands at $12 million...with no information about how much sub-districts two, three and four will cost.

The Board said it would provide free hook ups, then backtracked to say residents would have to pay for restoring their private property after the trunk lines were installed.

The board said it would offer a four-year introductory rate of around $50 a month for sewer service but then failed to mention residents would be supplying the money for the rate from the assessments it has already paid.

As it stands, we residents don’t know where we stand except we’re pretty sure we stand in the dark. Until we are satisfied we understand what this albatross sewer proposal will cost, we should vote NO on the measure.
