MISSOULA - The Seeley-Swan High School (SSHS) Cross County team began their season this week with the largest team they have had, seven boys and four girls. Their first meet was the Big Sky Invitational in Missoula, Sept. 1.
Logan Maughan, Cameron Haines, Lane Mackie-Wendell and Logan Robinson return this year for the boys and Cera Strumpfer and Elizabeth Done are back on the team for the girls. Avery Smith joined the high school team after running with the middle school last year. Cordell Turner, Will Banks, Chloe Robbins and Amber Springer are new to the team. Maughan and Smith are doubling with football and Robbins is also playing volleyball.
Running their better times in the morning hours, the varsity was somewhat disappointed with their times at the very warm Big Sky Invitational. Maughan and Strumpfer led their respective teams with all five of the boys qualifying for state.
The runners are looking forward to setting season personal records (PRs) at their next meet at Rebecca Farms Equestrian Park, Sept. 9. This is also the location for State Cross Country.
