GREENOUGH – Sunset School will be offering bus services to and from school for the first time this year. Majestic Bus Services will be transporting students from three stops in the Greenough area starting the first day of school, Sept. 6.
“We have always been told it would cost too much,” said Supervising Teacher Toni Hatten. “I never thought it would happen.”
Sunset School board approved the contract with Majestic Bus Services of Missoula, Mont. Friday, Sept. 2 for the 2016-2017 school year. Since Majestic Bus Services is already in the area for their route with Potomac School the cost for the route was a little more than $25,000. With the more than $20,000 the school is reimbursed from the state, the Sunset School board approved the less than $5,000 cost to the local taxpayer. It will come out of the school’s general fund.
Majestic will run their regular route for Potomac School. After dropping Potomac students off, they will begin their route for Sunset making stops at Blanchard Road, Ninemile Prairie Road and Clearwater Junction. This pushes the start time for Sunset School back to 8:20 a.m. The students’ day ends at 3:18 p.m. when they will get back on the bus. After dropping Sunset students off, Majestic will return to Potomac School for their afternoon route.
“Transportation has always been a challenge for parents to get their kids all the way here,” said Hatten. “We’ve never had a bus service before in the last 100 years. It’s going to be a real lifesaver for us.”
