Cottonwood Lakes Road to Close for Culvert Work

SEELEY LAKE – Cottonwood Lakes Road (FS Road #477) will be closed to all traffic beginning mid-September so that culverts can be replaced in the area. The road is expected to open again in mid-October.

Culverts to be replaced are located at Black Canyon Creek and Dry Cottonwood Creek and will be similar in design and width to the Little Shanley bottomless arch that was recently installed on the Seeley Lake Ranger District.

These new culverts will precede planned narrowing and reconstruction work on Cottonwood Lakes Road, which is planned for 2017-2018.

Forest officials understand this work and closure will impact public use and are asking for cooperation and patience from forest users while the work is completed.

There are several components to the work that have long-term benefit for both users and forest resources. The new culverts will improve fish passage (fish migration) and is important for long-term sustainability of local fish populations as well as other aquatic species.

For information on the status of the work or for details on access to Black Canyon Road (FS Road #4385) please contact the Seeley Lake Ranger District at 406-677-2233.
