Reaping the Fruit of Dedication

SEELEY LAKE - Seeley Lake resident Hope Lewis started growing a pineapple plant in her home three years ago. She continued to water and care for the plant in hopes that one day it would bloom. Last week she noticed amongst the leaves, a pineapple the size of a grapefruit.

Three years ago, Lewis bought a pineapple at Cory's Valley Market and cut the top off. She stuck the top in water to see what it would do. After about a week it started to grow so she planted it in a pot.

"I'm always sticking stuff in the dirt and trying to get something to grow," said Lewis.

The plant grew in a hanging pot in an east-facing window. Lewis just noticed the little pineapple growing two weeks ago.

While Lewis is very excited to reap the benefits of her dedication, she said she plans to let the pineapple grow a little more before she picks it.
